International Law
Mr. Buckley learned about international business when he started an international consulting company providing services to clients seeking to do business overseas. After the first Gulf War, he spent six months of the year, every year, for almost four years (1991-95) representing numerous military, technology, medical and manufacturing companies in the Arab Gulf (known to most Americans as the Persian Gulf) while operating from an office in the Middle East. In short, John Buckley learned offshore from living it, not studying it in some book.

As an officer in a foreign company, he negotiated agreements with U.S. and British companies on behalf of his foreign principals.

This unique perspective on the foreign legal environment provides a value that few attorneys can offer to clients - the ability to view transactions from a foreign legal perspective.

Mr. Buckley has negotiated numerous distributor, joint venture, and agency agreements on behalf of his clients. He has negotiated and drafted documents (including but not limited to letters of credit) insuring that clients get paid on time for their goods or services. He understands the problem inherent in operating in different legal environments, and the conflicts that can arise as a result of those differences. Mr. Buckley is versed in French and Arabic, and has lectured on various aspects of international law, Islamic jurisprudence, and strategic decision-making related to international trade.

A limited number of business and estate planning clients require diversified knowledge of international issues. This includes the use of asset protection tools that are only available using jurisdictions outside the United States, including offshore insurance products.
